MASTER LIGHT IN THE DARK

The Redline Challenge is for ambitious amateur photographers who want to challenge their creativity and test their technical know-how.

“Lorenz Holder invites you to explore the exciting possibilities of shooting in low-light, capturing the ever-intriguing relationship between light and shadow, colour and contrast.”

MASTER LIGHT IN THE DARK: LIGHT PAINTING - INSPIRED BY LORENZ HOLDER

I dipped my toes in to light painting for the Canon RedlineChallenge by taking some pictures of my Canon gear on my desk at home and a flashlight in hand. This makes for a simple setup, but I really enjoyed creating these and I think I should be proud of the result - plus eager to try more light painting in the future!

ILLUSION?

For this challenge, I chose to take a photograph of me taking a picture with an analogue camera. The reflection is no illusion either, I namely positioned my tripod exactly on the spot where you would see that reflection. In other words, the mirror’s reflection you see in these pictures is real! Apart from the reflection element, I also tried to show the contrast between the object (the mirror in this case) and its environment (nature). Their only relation to each and other is the reflection in the mirror - which in itself tells a story too: me taking a picture. And thus, this is my story element. Finally, these images were taken in Kortrijk, in the Groeningepark.
